SUPPORT

"Where Love Meets Action, Shalom Happens"

Background of Need

Our charitable work is proceeding with the understanding the current population of Uganda is about 42 million people with 8 million people living in poverty with the most vulnerable people living in rural communities.  In and around Nyakyera there are about 48,000 people living in this rural community.

Uganda’s population is the second youngest in the world, with 78% below the age of 30.  Young adults make up about 64% of the unemployed, with limited opportunities for employment, especially young women. Gender inequality limits the ability of women and girls to fully thrive. To keep up with the growing labor force, the economy needs to create at least 700,000 new jobs per year, far exceeding the 75,000 jobs currently being created.

Adding to the present difficulties in meeting the needs of the population, Uganda hosts the third-highest number of refugees, with about 1.6 million as of March 2022.  This number has risen with continued influxes from the surrounding countries of the Democratic Republic of Congo, South Sudan, and Burundi.

Uganda has a progressive policy with the added burden of refugees which is well funded by the international community. These displaced populations are being fully integrated into the host Ugandan communities, living in settlements instead of camps.  This allows refugees to live with more freedom, but results in conflicts as refugees and host community members compete for resources.

By the year 2050 the population in Uganda is expected to grow to 100 million people. Poverty, along with inadequate and inaccessible community support systems, integrated health and protection services, and insufficient educational facilities prevent families and communities from thriving. Our charitable support effort is focused on improving these basic human needs.
